P — Problem Description
Priority should be given to improving our understanding of the issue. Thus, ask a lot of questions.
For instance:
As a Lead PM for Stories at Instagram, you have received a worrying set of numbers indicating a 35% decrease in Stories engagement. What steps would you take to address this issue?
Is the dashboard data accurate? is the first thing to inquire about.
To ensure the reader understands, you will first attempt to ascertain how engagement is measured. (Sessions, Likes, Comments, etc.)
How long has this affected the engagement? Is it increasing month over month or week over week?
If it is consistently experiencing monthly outages, there is serious concern for both the firm and the entire function.
After you have a clear understanding of the issue, let's examine what has impacted the M: metrics.
What caused this change? is one question to investigate and deduce from the data.
Q1. Is the impact global or limited to certain regions? Does this issue apply to any particular system architecture?
Q2. This alteration is the result of something outside our control. (For instance: Instagram ban in that region, Christmas week, disaster, internet ban, etc.)
Q3. External (Competitors, seasonality, a new app on the market, etc.)
Q4. Is this an experiment or the release of an internal feature?
